EI Principal David A. Argue presented a discussion of a new model for hospital merger simulation in a seminar sponsored by the Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals Committee of the ABA Antitrust Section.

Dr. Argue has extensive experience in the health care industry. He has analyzed competition and performed damages analyses in various health care markets for government merger reviews and private antitrust litigation.  The merger simulation model was used internally by the FTC staff in reaching its decision to litigate the Inova/Prince William hospital transaction and has been used internally in the FTC’s review of several other recent hospital cases as well.  Dr. Argue and EI Senior Vice President Richard T. Shin published an article that overviews the model in the Fall 2009 issue of Antitrust magazine. EI is currently developing its own version of the model.
