On November 24, 2020, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved NRG Energy’s acquisition of Direct Energy from Centrica PLC. As part of its application under Section 203 of the Federal Power Act, NRG submitted a market power study authored by EI Principal Dr. John R. Morris. NRG was represented by McDermott Will & Emery LLP. The transaction is expected to close in early 2021.
